DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A questionable video from the night of the downtown Dallas ambush shows two on-duty DPD police officers calling some fellow officers 'cowards' on a podcast.
"It shows they weren't doing their job that night. There were a lot of officers with heroic actions that night and these guys instead were doing a podcast," said Dallas Police Association President Ron Pinkston.
Officers Gregory Watkins and Margus McCuin called into the "Your World, My View Podcast" hosted by controversial Atlanta activist Tommy Sotomayor.
"As you can see I am a Dallas Police officer I am at work as we speak… it's complete chaos," Watkins said on the video.
He was referring to one of the city's most harrowing nights, when five officers were killed by a sniper's bullets. And as Watkins' and McCuins' colleagues were racing to the scene and answering other police calls, the two North Dallas patrol officers drove around espousing controversial opinions about police shootings.
"Quit hiring cowards, they are hiring cowards… my partner says they are hiring cowards," said Watkins about rookie officers coming out of the academy. "They are hiring ex-military and they don't see people as human."
The officers also cursed and criticized police actions during recent shootings around the country; shootings that provoked the attack in downtown earlier that night.
The Dallas Police Association said the two officers are not a reflection of how other cops feel.
Department officials are aware of the podcast and told CBS11 Internal Affairs is investigating both men.
The video was removed from Youtube as of the time of this report.
Both officers remain on active duty but could face serious disciplinary action.
