Large Emotional Crowd Gathers To Remember Six Killed In Crash
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Twenty-four hours after three Kimball High School students and three others died in a violent single car wreck, more than hundred people came to the crash site to mourn.
According to police, the car with all six inside was traveling south on Bonnie View Road near Highland Hills.
The car then struck a curb, flipped onto the median, and smashed into a tree. Police believe excessive speed may have been a factor.
The victims ranged in age from 15 to 23 years old.
Three of the six young people killed in Sunday's crash were cousins – Quatia Ervin, Kennisha Bradford, and Jonathan Lang.
Gaylandya Bradford said she saw her three cousins minutes before the wreck Sunday and still can't believe they're gone.
"It's real hard," she said. "I'm mean, they just left just left the house."
The other three killed in the crash were students at Dallas ISD's Kimball High. All of the young men were football players.
Friends said Desedric Johnson, a defensive tackle on the junior varsity squad, was making people laugh.
Trey Woodberry was a freshman. Family members say he always had a smile on his face.
Dorothy Hawkins is a longtime family friend said, "He was a sweet young man - loving, kind, and respectful."
Kentron Haskins was also a freshman student at Kimball High School. His mother, who was visibly overwhelmed by emotion Monday night at the crash site, had just bought her son his first pair of football cleats last week.
Haskin's aunt, Chaka Watkins, said for the family it still feels like a "dream".
"It's just so tragic," she said, "I can't explain it."
Kimball High School students encouraged classmates to wear black to school on Tuesday to honor their fallen classmates. The football team will also dedicate Saturday's game to their three teammates.
