GRAND PRAIRIE (CBS 11 NEWS) - Jeanette Medrano says she called 911 around 1:30 Tuesday morning after hearing a gunshot and seeing a woman out in the street.

"She was by her car, on the floor screaming," she recalled.

Grand Prairie police say the woman's husband chased her out of the house and onto Scarborough Drive, firing multiple gunshots at her. She wasn't hurt.

Vicky Courson says she's known the couple for 17 years. "It kind of scares me having some guy running and chasing down the street his wife with a gun. It bothers me."

Police say they called in the SWAT team after realizing the couple's one-year-old grandchild was still inside, and the woman's husband wouldn't give up.

When SWAT officers went in to rescue the boy at 6:30 a.m., they found the man had shot himself in the head. The boy was still sleeping and is okay.

Medrano says, "I felt relieved whenever they brought him out."

Police say the woman's husband remains in critical condition.

Authorities aren't identifying those involved.
