DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Dallas County Schools released video of a student nearly getting run over after getting off of a school bus on September 1.

A video captured by the school bus camera shows that it was stopped in the middle of the road with the stop arm visibly showing and lights flashing. An unknown car turns right onto the street where the bus is stopped and side swipes a student as he is trying to cross the street.

School officials say the 12-year-old only had minor injuries. However, the boy's mother told Dallas County Schools that he is now afraid to ride the bus and is emotionally distraught from the accident.

Richardson ISD and the boy's mother agreed to release the footage to bring awareness to how dangerous it is for kids at bus stops because drivers are not stopping.

According to the district, drivers illegally pass a stopped school bus with flashing lights over 400 times every day.
