DALLAS (AP) - Authorities say an officer with the Dallas school district fired his gun during a struggle with a 20-year-old man near a high school.

The Dallas Morning News says it's the first time a Dallas school officer has fired their weapon in the line of duty in the department's history. Police say the officer had minor injuries, but nobody was seriously hurt in the incident.

Officials say the officer was patrolling near H. Grady Spruce High School when he pulled over the 20-year-old in a convenience store parking lot for a traffic violation. They say the man got out of his vehicle and physically confronted the officer.

Authorities say the two struggled on the ground, and the officer fired his gun but didn't strike the man. The man, whose identity wasn't released, tried to flee but was caught and arrested.
