DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The first day of school is just around the corner for students in the Dallas Independent School District, and the district is kicking off a string of community meetings before the year begins. One of the biggest topics at these meetings is sure to be the search for a new superintendent.

Mike Miles resigned from the top position in June after a contract dispute. Miles also said that he wanted to be with his family in Colorado. A familiar face is now leading the school district. Former DISD superintendent Dr. Michael Hinojosa said that he will serve as long as he is needed.

School district administrators at the community meetings will also be answering questions about building upgrades, funding and new programs -- including pre-kindergarten classes and career tech education.

There are three community meetings scheduled for Tuesday night. Other meetings are planned for Wednesday and Thursday. Parents are encouraged to bring their questions for school district officials. The first day of school is on Monday.
