DFW Airport Marks 40th Anniversary
GRAPEVINE (AP) - DFW International Airport has marked its 40th anniversary in a way similar to the first arriving flight -- with yellow roses for passengers.
The flowers were presented Monday afternoon to passengers on an American Airlines flight from Little Rock, Arkansas. The plane used for the designated anniversary flight was also showered by a water cannon.
The first flight to what was originally called DFW Regional Airport arrived on January 13, 1974, as American Flight 341 from Little Rock.
The airport opened with service by 12 carriers, with access to 56 gates and three runways. The original airport had three terminals.
DFW International Airport has grown to 23 passenger airlines, 155 gates, five terminals and seven runways. The airport serves 60 million passenger annually.
