GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - The rush is on for travelers to reach loved ones by Thanksgiving, and DFW International Airport was bustling Wednesday. The airport is expecting to see an increase in holiday travelers this season. An estimated 1.89 million passengers will go through the airport just for the Thanksgiving holiday alone.

The crowds on Wednesday have been pretty good -- just off and on through the first part of the day. When security lines began to get long, they moved quickly. Holiday travelers said that they did not notice any serious problems. There are also no serious flight delays across the country.

"I'm actually really shocked right now," said Don Murray on his way to Nashville. "The lines are pretty short. I think I'm going to be okay."

One concern, however, has been the travel alert that is now in effect. The U.S. State Department has warned all travelers to be extra careful and more vigilant, especially after the terrorist attacks in Paris. Some passengers admitted that they are worried, but not enough to miss Thanksgiving with family members.

"I'm a little concerned but not that much, because I think we do a good job checking bags in the United States," stated traveler Ron Barton, going to Kentucky. "I think with the heightened awareness, they will be checking more things. I'm confident."

"You got to be concerned, because it's real," added Melvina Brown, heading to Washington. "You can't just say it's not going to happen. You don't know when it's going to happen. Just got to be careful."

With airports on high alert, lines at security checkpoints might be longer than usual. Officials recommend that travelers arrive at least two hours early just to make sure that no flights are missed.
