Dez Returns To Cowboys Practice Field

IRVING (105.3 The Fan) - Dez Bryant is leaping closer to a return to the game field with Wednesday's work on the Dallas Cowboys practice field for the first time since fracturing a bone in his right foot six weeks ago.

The Cowboys opened the day with sources telling me they expected the standout receiver to be limited in the workout. But I am also told that "limited'' is not at all Bryant's own plan.

"When I'm ready to go, I'm going to go,'' Dez told me.

Coach Jason Garrett position? "We're going to give him a certain amount of work and see how he's handling it," Garrett said before the workout.  "We'll try to give him more as we go, and we'll see how he does with the whole day's work, see what he's able to do tomorrow. He'll come in and we'll say, 'How are you feeling?' You just monitor day-by-day, hour-by-hour, and determine what your next moves are.

"No guarantee that he's going to play this week. We're going to try to get through today and see how he responds to the work that we have."

Bryant's position, as stated to me, is that he doesn't need to be "100-percent healed'' to play. Medical people disagree, but this may be a non-issue with Garrett suggesting that bone scans show that Dez is healed.

The Cowboys are 2-4 and have lost four straight games with Bryant and Tony Romo (collarbone) absent due to injury. Romo can begin practicing no earlier than Nov. 4 for a Nov. 11 return to the field at Miami.

Dez? As far as he's concern, the return is impending.
