DESOTO (CBSDFW.COM) — The City of DeSoto has shut down its temporary shelters and is directing residents needing a place to stay following Saturday's storms to the regional American Red Cross shelter.

The local Red Cross shelter is at Red Oak Middle School (154 Louise Ritter Blvd.). Another is in Rowlett at Steadham Elementary School (6200 Danridge Road).

Tornado activity was reported in southern Dallas County around 6 p.m. Saturday, a city spokeswoman said. Several residences and other structures in DeSoto were damaged. At least seven houses are uninhabitable and four have significant damage.

An area near the intersection of Mockingbird Lane and Uhl Road was evacuated due to damage to structures and power lines.

The temporary shelters the city set up at 211 E. Pleasant Run Rd. and Frank D. Moates Elementary in Glenn Heights have been closed.
