Deron's In Dallas; Mavs Continue Non-Tank Signings

DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - Sources tell me that Deron Williams is already in Dallas as part of his plan to sign a two-year, $10-mil contract with the Mavs once he clears NBA waivers on Monday afternoon.

This is a continuation of the Mavs' post-DeAndre Defection intent to remain competitive in 2015-16 as opposed to losing games on purpose in order to help draft position.

"No,'' owner Mark Cuban said last week when I asked him about "Team Tank.'' "We've added Wes ... we're getting a center … We are not (tanking). We're moving forward.''

The signing of Wes Matthews, the trade for Zaza Pachulia, the pursuit of yet another center and the coming get of Williams supports that position. Williams was not high on Dallas' wish list a week ago (nor were center candidates like JaVale McGee and Kevin Seraphin) but the list has thinned. No one will claim Williams due to the $42 mil left on his existing contract, so the man Dallas attempted to lure home as a big fish in 2012 is the best available now, even at 31 and with 32 games missed in the last two seasons largely due to ankle problems.

Williams, who in the last two seasons has averaged 13.7 points and 6.4 assists per game for Brooklyn, is from The Colony. His wife last week went to social media to issue a musical announcement, "I'm Coming Home.''
