FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Tarrant County Sheriff's Department Deputy Keith Foster is speaking about the crash the left him injured and the overwhelming support from his fellow law officers.
It was Wednesday morning that Deputy Foster was riding his beloved motorcycle to work near McCart and Alta Vista in Fort Worth when he was clipped by an SUV he says never stopped.
Foster recalls the moment saying, "I was laying on the ground rolling and sliding down the street."
He was left with a broken leg that needed surgery and road rash on his arms.
Deputy Foster has only been on the department for 3 months and doesn't qualify for full benefits. That's where his fellow deputies and officers from other departments stepped in to help.
He added, "When I woke up from being put under I got the overwhelming news that they were behind me 100 percent."
A GoFundMe page was set up for the officer and the money began pouring in to help cover the costs of his surgery and sick leave for being away from the job.
Foster said, "What that allows for me to do is it give me a piece of mine that I will be able to have some kind of financial support."
He says the show of support shows just how tight the brotherhood is within the law enforcement community.
While he rests and heals he says he doesn't hold any hard feeling toward the driver who put him in this predicament.
Foster added, "I don't hold a grudge against them. I'm not looking for them because I believe if I were to have stayed angry …then the nice things and blessings I have received I wouldn't have received if I had hatred in my heart."
The deputy is expected to be released from Harris Methodist Hospital on Sunday.
