Deputies Capture Suspect For Murdering Father, Shooting At Police

JOHNSON COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Johnson County deputies captured a male suspect for shooting and killing his father and for firing shots at police Friday evening.

According to officials, deputies responded to a disturbance call at approximately 9:22 p.m. on Harriet Circle, which is outside Cleburne.

The female caller said her brother shot her father and that her brother was still armed at the scene.

Officials said the woman fled the scene and took her father to a hospital where he was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds.

Deputies identified the victim as 72-year-old Manuel Rodriguez and determined the suspect as 48-year-old Omar Rodriguez.

According to officials, Omar Rodriguez fled to a neighboring residence and refused to exit.

Deputies said they entered the residence, and were then fired at by Omar Rodriguez. He fired four shots while in the residence. A deputy returned fire and struck the suspect in the left shoulder area.

A deputy was injured at the scene of gunfire from flying debris but was treated and released from Walls Methodist Hospital.

Officials said Omar Rodriguez was flown by CareFlite to John Peter Smith hospital where he will recover from his injuries.

Omar Rodriguez will be charged with the murder of his father, and he could face charges for attempted murder of a police officer.
