Denton Woman Meets Great Great Granddaughter, Turns 105

By Matt Thomas | @MattThomasNews

DENTON (KRLD) -- "I've seen a lot of things."

Hazel Copp was born June 14, 1910 here in North Texas. William Howard Taft was president and KRLD Radio wouldn't exist for another 16 years. She moved to her current home county as a teenager.

"I've lived in Denton County since 1928." And she's been there since, raising a family and now living a pretty independent life in a Denton retirement apartment.

When asked the secret to living past 100, Copp said, "I don't know. I don't think it's so much what I've done. I think it's just God's grace toward me."

One of the more recent blessings in Copp's life -- getting to meet her great great granddaughter. "Well, I think it's a grand idea! It's something a lot of people don't have."

Copp outlived her husband and all of her children, but she still has a lot of family in the area. Including me. She's my great grandmother, and the great great granddaughter she met and held is my baby girl. During our visit, Granny, as she's called by everyone, shared some wisdom about unsolicited advice to family members.

"I've never given them any advice in any way unless they asked me." I replied, well, I'm sure they've asked, to which she said with a laugh, "Well, not too much!"
