Denton Residents Bundle Up As Temps Drop
DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Some Denton residents say they didn't think they would need heat in the middle of April, but Monday morning they say they were wishing they had the warmth. Haley Cunningham says she quickly realized she didn't have any heat inside her apartment near the University of North Texas campus.
"If you stand right here it's just cold air," says Cunningham standing under the vent. "I have it turned up to 90 right now and the little marker is below 60."
She says she's having to find ways to bundle up. "I'm supposed to be able to sleep comfortably without layering myself with 7 blankets and still shivering," says Cunningham. "That's not fair."
CBS 11"s Arezow Doost left several messages with the apartment answering service without heat. After reaching out to management again she was told by the answering service that the boiler is out and won't be fixed Monday night. Residents say they've been told by maintenance to turn on the oven and bundle up.
Monday afternoon the wind howled in Denton and temperatures kept dropping.
As people in Denton face a freeze in the middle of April many are still dealing with the ding ups from the hail storm just 10 days ago.
"An unexpected weather twist as usual for Texas," says Ontaya Weathers, who is just now getting an estimate on her damaged car. "The hail really took me by surprise because I didn't think it was as severe as it was. It was coming from the left, right -- all over."
A handful of hail repair crews have set up shop near the hardest-hit area.
"Broken windows, broken glass, broken windshields -- everything," says Dillen Leggett with Advantage Auto Hail Repair. "We've been really busy."
While Spring storms mean big business for some people just want the sun back.
"I miss the warm weather," says Cunningham. "I really do."
