DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Denton police continued to question the man they say stabbed his parents to death in their Denton home. Investigators say Stephen Scott told a dispatcher he'd killed his parents during a 9-1-1 call Sunday. But there is still one big question unanswered.
"As of right now we don't have a motive why," said police spokesman Orlando Hinojosa.
Police say Scott, 40, called 9-1-1 sobbing and breathing heavily Sunday as he told a dispatcher he'd stabbed his parents. Scott lives in Dallas but would frequently stay in his parents Denton home sources say. Linda and Marion Scott were retirees in their 70's. The pastor of their church said the couple was well liked and participated in social events, like the quilting club.
Police records state after he was arrested, Scott took long periods of time responding to questions, told police he was confused and at one point asked the interrogator "What is this about?"
Investigators say the sight of the elderly couple lying side by side on the bloody floor of their homes is haunting.
"I've been to multiple scenes and that one was a little hard," Hinojosa said. "When I walked in there and I saw the two lying on the ground, they're pretty close to my parents age. So that's the reason it kind of hit home."
A police report says the Scotts had called 9-1-1 back in 2002 because their son was out of control. Police wouldn't elaborate. Scott is charged with capital murder.
