DENTON — A 24-year-old Denton man has been arrested in connection with a fatal overnight shooting.

Police say Riley Clowers is now facing a murder charge.

Multiple callers reported hearing gunshots around midnight at an apartment complex in the 3200 block of W. Windsor Drive, according to a Denton Police Department news release.

Witnesses saw a pickup truck, believed to be involved in the incident, driving into a nearby field. Upon arrival, officers found the truck and rendered aid to two men inside who suffered apparent gunshot wounds. The male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his leg.

"The investigation revealed that (Clowers) entered the truck with a firearm, and the driver attempted to drive away," the news release said. "A struggle for the firearm occurred inside the vehicle, and both the driver and the unidentified male in the passenger seat were shot."

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office will release the deceased victim's identity after next of kin have been notified.
