DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) — People in Denton had some scary moments as the storm blew through several neighborhoods, ripping off rooftops and fences and sending trees crashing into homes.

Homes along Oakwood Drive just south of Interstate-35E had some of the worst damage.  Winds picked Tim Grace's storage shed right up off its foundation and rolled it backwards, but when the storm hit, his backyard was the last thing on his mind when he looked out his front door.

"I opened the door and was watching it come my way, and it got to a point where I couldn't shut the front door.  I was trying to shut the front door, and the winds were coming so hard that rain and everything was coming in through the front door," Grace said.

All along Oakwood Drive neighbors worked to pick up the pieces after it was all over.  Trees fell everywhere leaving a massive cleanup effort ahead.  A little further south along Highway-377, neighbors at the Bent Creek Estates found fences toppled like dominoes and scattered among pieces of roof and tree limbs.

"I could see stuff spinning in the street.  The tops of the trees were touching the ground.  Stuff was blowing through like crazy," said Shayne Pearce as he picked up debris along his street.

Neighbors tell us it only took a few minutes for the storm to blow through, but that was enough to send Mickey Mickenheim's trampoline flying as he and his family took shelter.

"If it's coming your way, duck and cover for sure," Mickenheim said.

Fortunately everyone seemed to escape without serious injury, leaving many with a feeling of gratitude.

"I feel lucky.  My house is still here," Grace said.
