Denton Animal Services Employee Faces Theft Charge

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A supervisor from the City of Denton's Animal Services division was fired on Friday morning amid accusations that he stole more than $30,000 from the department. A warrant had been issued Wednesday for the arrest of Woodie Wilson.
According to investigators, the city began noticing "potential discrepancies in cash" related to the Animal Services department and, in particular, transactions which involved Wilson. Authorities reviewed deposits and financial documents dating back to October of last year.
The investigators found no problems with credit card or check transactions, according to a news release issued by the Denton Police Department on Friday morning. But the daily deposits did not include more than $30,000 in cash transactions. Those transactions, investigators said, were all tied to Wilson.
The suspect turned himself over to authorities on Friday morning, upon which he was fired from his Animal Services position with the city. Wilson has now been charged with theft by a public servant.
