Dallas Native Demi Lovato Hospitalized After Reported Overdose

LOS ANGELES (CBSDFW.COM/CNN) - Dallas native Demi Lovato was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital after suffering a reported overdose.

The singer's representative said in a statement, "Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support. Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now."

According to law enforcement officials, the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a medical emergency at the 8000 block of Laurel View Drive in the Hollywood Hills, where Lovato's home is located, according to Variety.

The pop star has struggled with substance abuse before, having attended rehab for cocaine in the past.

Last month, she released a song called "Sober" revealing she had fallen off the wagon.

She tweeted and pinned the song to her feed last month.

"Momma, I'm so sorry, I'm not sober anymore," she sings on the track.  "And Daddy, please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor/ To the ones who never left me, we've been down this road before/ I'm so sorry, I'm not sober anymore."

"Sober" does not reveal the nature of Lovato's relapse, but she sings, "I'm sorry for the fans I lost who watched me fall again. I want to be a role model but I'm only human."

In February, Lovato told CBS News that her single, "Tell Me You Love Me" was actually about conquering her addiction as well. "People think it's a breakup song," she said, "but it's actually kind of a breakup song with myself and my bad habits."

The singer performed at the California Mid-State Fair on Sunday with her friend, Iggy Azalea. Azalea revealed to ET that she knew about Lovato's relapse and was worried someone would use the news against her, but said ultimately, she was proud of Lovato for sharing her struggle in "Sober."

"I was just really proud of her that she was honest, because it's really hard to be honest with yourself," Azalea told ET. "So, to be honest with the whole world, [to share] something that you struggled with very publicly, it's something that is very admirable. I was very proud of her to see her write that song and put it out."

Lovato has always been an open when it comes to her mental health and struggles with substance abuse.

In the past, Lovato has spoken candidly in various interviews about her drug use and addiction to alcohol, as well as her struggle with an eating disorder.

No stranger to the metroplex, Lovato's mother is a former Cowboys cheerleader from Irving. Lovato often speaks about how important her fans are to her. She even sang at a fan's Southlake home to promote her House Party tour in 2016.

The hashtag #PrayForDemi trended on Twitter and several celebrities posted supportive words Tuesday, including Missy Elliott, Ariana Grande, Brad Paisley, Kesha, Bebe Rexha, Meghan Trainor, Maren Morris, Kehlani and British electronic group Clean Bandit, whose current single "Solo" features Lovato.

Ellen DeGeneres tweeted that "it breaks my heart that she is going through this. She is a light in this world, and I am sending my love to her and her family."
