Delivery Driver Drops Off Pizza, Picks Up Customer's Wallet On-Camera

GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - More than $600 for three pizzas? That's what a Garland family says it costs them after a delivery driver was caught on camera stealing a wallet.
The family has video showing a Pizza Hut delivery driver stopping to notice something on the street while dropping off pizzas at the home of Elizabeth Huerta. "We've ordered from them for years and haven't had any problems ever," she says.
Huerta and her sister Adriana say it wasn't long after the delivery that a family member called to ask if they could look on the street to see if a wallet had fallen out of their truck, which the security camera also captured.
"He realized he was missing his wallet and he asked us to check outside and see if we saw it," says Adriana Acuna, Huerta's sister.
When the family couldn't find the wallet on the street they checked their security camera again and couldn't believe their eyes. "That's when we saw the Pizza Hut delivery guy pick it up," says Acuna.
The video shows the deliveryman picking up the same object he noticed after arriving and driving away. The family filed a police report and complained to a manager at the Pizza Hut on Kingsley Road. "It's just really devastating that they didn't do anything about it," says Acuna.
They say the manager confronted the driver who then handed over the wallet. But $600 dollars from the family member's cashed paycheck was missing. "He gave it to us and it was empty," says Acuna.
A spokesman for the company tells CBS11 News, "We are aware of the incident and currently investigating," says Doug Terfehr, Pizza Hut Spokesman.
What Huerta says upsets her more than the video is witnessing the manager send the employee back on another delivery after getting the wallet back. "We were even going to give them $100 if he had turned the whole wallet in complete," says Huerta, "But they want to sit there and lie and say 'trust me I wouldn't do that,' something about him having a baby, but then when you say we got your camera, oh here's the wallet."
The family says the driver's license in the wallet was the same address as the pizza delivery so if the driver had any intention of returning it he could have walked up to the door.
The driver has not responded to CBS 11 News for comment.
