DALLAS (CBS11) - The future of Fair Park ignited a fiery debate on Monday in Dallas.

A special meeting was scheduled by city council and Mayor Mike Rawlings to discuss how best the revitalize one of the most important properties in North Texas.

The crowds were so large on Monday that the Dallas City Council and the mayor were forced to extend the meeting an extra hour and a half.  Speaking time limits were also shortened.

The overwhelming theme of the evening was focused on how best to include the residents of the surrounding neighborhoods.

Mayor Rawlings promised they would not be forgotten this time around.

"The community was done wrong many years back and we as a city, it's time for us to over react. And as we rebuild Fair Park, make sure that community gets what it deserves," said Rawlings.

No decisions were made.

Council and Mayor Rawlings promised the meeting on Monday would not be the end to the dialogue surrounding Fair Park.
