DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - City council members in Denton debated for hours Wednesday night before finally approving an economic development package that will allow Buc-ee's to build a new travel center along I-35E.

Council members listened to comments from the public about the proposed business on a 38-acre lot that backs up to the Wind River and Southridge neighborhoods. Supporters of the project say a Buc-ee's would bring tourism to the area and could draw other successful businesses to the area.

But many residents who live near the proposed mega-gas station say a Buc-ee's could ruin property values and is a bad fit for a property that's so close to a neighborhood.

The final vote was 5-2.

Construction on the massive project could begin next year but is not expected to be finished until 2018 when work on the I-35E Express project is finished.
