Deadly Wrong-Way Crash In DeSoto Closes I-35E For Hours

DESOTO (CBSDFW.COM) -A wrong-way driver was killed early Sunday morning after crashing into an 18-wheeler on I-35E.

DeSoto Police say it happened shortly after 5:00 a.m.

The victim was Osmin Ruiz, 25, according to his Ruiz's wife.

Investigators say Ruiz was going northbound in the southbound lanes when it collided with the big rig Wintergreen and Danieldale Rd.

The 18-wheeler then jack-knifed and caught fire. The driver was able to get out of the truck and walked away from the crash.

The medical examiner and hazardous materials teams responded.

The section of I-35E remained closed until 3:40 p.m. Sunday.
