DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas police went to a residential area in West Dallas after a report of shots fired. When officers arrived at the scene, in the 1900 block of McBroom, they found a man, shot dead, inside a car.

The victim was later identified as 30-year-old Brandon Hollis. Police say he was shot "multiple times."

According to one person at the scene, the victim was sitting in the car when someone walked up and shot him early Friday evening.  The suspect fled from the scene on foot.

Video from Chopper 11 showed several squad cars blocking off the area near Hampton and Singleton. The car, that apparently still had Hollis' body inside, could be seen parked. Witnesses said Hollis lived in the neighborhood.

CBS 11's Jennifer Lindgren reported that neighbors on another block heard five or six gun shots minutes before police arrived.

After closing off the area, police could be seen interviewing what appeared to be family members and neighbors.

On social media, one person sent a tweet that the west campus of El Centro College was on "lockdown."

Police say they haven't determined a motive for the shooting and are still trying to identify the fugitive suspect.
