3 people dead after multi-vehicle crash on US 75 in Richardson

More details released on North Central Expressway crash that left 3 dead

RICHARDSON –  At least three people were killed in a major wreck on US 75 in Richardson, which left the highway shut down for hours Friday morning.

The crash happened at 11:55 p.m. Thursday, according to Richardson police. As a result, all southbound lanes of US 75, also known as Central Expressway, were shut down near President George Bush Turnpike during the morning rush hour. The highway reopened just before 9 a.m.

Richardson police said they initially responded to a report of a stalled Cadillac SUV in the southbound HOV lane. Before police arrived, the driver of a Lexus SUV crashed into the back of the Cadillac. Then, police said a Dodge sedan struck the rear of the Lexus.

While the two crashes occurred, the driver and six passengers in the Cadillac were standing outside the vehicle, police said. The driver and four other passengers of the Cadillac were taken to a hospital for their injuries. Alyia Khalid, 19, died at the scene. Another passenger wasn't injured.

The driver of the Lexus, 27-year-old Haley Taylor, and her 6-year-old daughter were taken to a hospital where they died.

The driver and passenger of the Dodge were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

When the Dodge struck the Lexus, a Nissan sedan was also struck twice—by a Dodge and an 18-wheeler that was passing through the crash scene, police said. The drivers of the Nissan and the 18-wheeler weren't injured.

Police said two other vehicles were damaged by debris from the crash.
