ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Yu Darvish is out of a brace and says he is maintaining a positive mindset during his season-long recovery from elbow reconstruction surgery.

The Japanese right-hander said Sunday that he didn't experience as much pain others he talked to about the Tommy John procedure. Still, he said through an interpreter that he wanted to take it slow.

There is no timetable for Darvish to start throwing again. The Texas ace felt tightness in his triceps while warming up for his spring training debut and threw 12 pitches in his only inning.

Darvish joked that his English is suffering since he's not on the road with his team but was serious when he said he would like to improve enough with the language to pursue dual citizenship.
