DART To Hold Vigil For Bus Driver Who Died In Crash

DALLAS (CBS11) - They enter the Peak Street entrance wearing navy blue wind jackets with a bright yellow DART logo on the chest.
Two women who drive buses hug at the door, while others sign a condolence card next to a photograph of their fallen coworker, Zulita Walker.
"She would do anything for you," Nancy Brown said, while laying her head on fellow DART employee Duane Gaut's shoulder. "We are hurt. we're broken," Gaut said.
The two were describing Walker who died Friday.
The nine-year veteran bus operator was killed after she slammed into a concrete pillar on I-30 near Fair Park. Walker had completed her transit duties for the night. There were no passengers on board.
"We're still investigating," said DART Spokesman Morgan Lyons. Lyons confirmed Walker was working "extra hours" the evening of the crash. The process is called extra board. DART bus operators can drive beyond their eight-hour work shifts, if they wish.
Drivers must log all driving time, but there's no limit on amount of driving time, Morgan said.
Accident investigators with the public transit agency are responsible for evaluating and assessing the crash. There were two cameras on Walker's bus. The cameras record all activity on board, including the actions of the driver.
