Dangerous Heat Now, But Relief Next Week

We had some fairly significant thunderstorms roll through parts of North Texas on Wednesday evening.  There were a few reports of wind damage - trees and power lines down - across our eastern counties.  Little or no rain made it to the Metroplex, unfortunately.

The infamous HEAT ADVISORY goes into effect today.  It's the first one of the season.  A HEAT ADVISORY is issued when the heat index number (feels like temperature) hits 105° for at least two days in a row.

It's crucial you and your family stay safe during this type of heat.  Below is a good list of heat safety tips.  Also don't forget to give you pets cool water or keep them inside.  And you may want to check in on your elderly friends and neighbors to see if they're ok.

High temperatures today will be in the upper 90s over most of North Texas.

Friday will feature even hotter temperatures!

Here's the good news:  next week is cooler.     The big dip in the jet stream will happen again, very similar to last week when we had October in July.  Check out the difference a week will make.

But lest we get ahead of ourselves, it's going to be hot for the next 5 or 6 days.
