Dallas Police Want Bulletproof Glass, Secure Parking In Wake Of Attack

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The Dallas Police Association is urging Mayor Mike Rawlings to enhance security after the recent attack on the Dallas Police Headquarters.
President Ron Pinkston hand-delivered a letter to Rawlings Wednesday, requesting immediate consideration for several security upgrades. Rawlings issued a statement after the attack, promising to increase security at DPD headquarters.
The letter calls for bulletproof glass to be installed at the Jack Evans Police Headquarters, shatterproof film on entryway glass, 24-hour video surveillance for vehicles entering and leaving all police facilities, and fenced-in parking lots accessible only by law enforcement.
After the shooting, CBS 11's JD Miles exposed the fact that many Dallas police park in unsecured lots, if they don't want to pay $400 a year to park in a gated garage.
In the letter, Pinkston stated the importance of adding additional security for police officers, staff, and citizens.
The request for improved security comes eleven days after James Boulware opened fire on the Dallas Police Headquarters, and immediately before the first meeting of the new Dallas City Council.
