Dallas Police Search For Driver In Deadly Hit-And-Run

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- Dallas Police are searching for the driver responsible for a deadly hit-and-run in Pleasant Grove late Wednesday night.

Police received a call about a man's body lying on the sidewalk just after 11 p.m. Authorities say the victim -- identified as 55-year-old Dallas resident Willie Nolen -- was crossing in the 3000 block of South Buckner Blvd. when he was struck by an unknown southbound vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and render aid.

Nolen's family was notified of the crash around 2 a.m. Thursday. They say that he is single, on disability, and lives alone. He was known to frequently take walks near his house, which sits just one block away.

"He was calling me at night. 'Mama, you going to bed? Well I'll talk to you tomorrow,'" said Eddie Jewel Nolen, Willie's mother. "And I missed that call last night. And I called him and got no answer."

The victim's father said he is in shock and wants answers.

Detectives are reviewing nearby surveillance footage to determine a description of the suspect's vehicle. As of now, there's no description available. The incident is being investigated as a hit-and-run homicide.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Dallas Police.
