Murder suspect in custody following shooting involving Dallas police officer

DALLAS (CBSNewsTexas.com) — The manhunt for a murder suspect who shot a Dallas police officer Thursday afternoon ended with his arrest in Lewisville.

The incident started when officers responded to a shooting in the 4800 block of Scyene Road on Sept. 14. Police said they witnessed the suspect fatally shoot another person he reportedly knew before driving off.

Officers gave chase, eventually stopping in the 4700 block of Second Avenue. The suspect then fired again, striking the officer in the chest. But the officer, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, survived.

He was taken to Baylor Scott & White and later released.

Just after 7 p.m. on Thursday, CBS News Texas received word the suspect was seen in Lewisville. Sources said he was arrested without incident but that he had a gunshot wound to the leg from earlier in the day.

Dallas Police Department Chief Eddie Garcia said he will offer more details about the suspect in the upcoming days.
