Dallas Police Make Arrest In Hit-And-Run Involving Officer

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas police arrested a 17 year old Saturday evening in relation to a hit-and-run accident that sent an officer's patrol car into a creek.

Ivory Nails, who police say was the driver of the vehicle that struck the squad car, was arrested for an outstanding theft warrant out of Dallas County. Authorities confirmed the vehicle Nails was driving when he hit the squad car was stolen.

Nails is also being charged with failure to stop and render aid after he fled the scene of the accident

The Dallas Senior Cpl. Dale Ordogne was in the patrol car when it went into the creek near Westmoreland and Keist. He was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries. A group of good Samaritans were able to help pull the officer to safety.

Family friend Charles Schluter tells CBS 11 police Cpl. Ordogne is at home recovering, but his injuries are extensive. Doctors treated him for punctured lungs, broken ribs, a broken clavicle and other injuries.

Police say Nails had multiple passengers in the truck with him who were all seen leaving the crash site without stopping to help.

"Of course they were breaking the law and committing crimes, so everyone's hope is they're apprehended, said Schluter. "I guess the one thing that I can personally say that I hope happens is that they learn something from this, something positive comes from it."

Police have not said if they are still searching for other suspects in the accident.
