CEDAR HILL (CBSDFW.COM) - One man is dead following a string of carjackings overnight.

Police say the fatal shooting of 44-year-old Welton Betts of Corsicana happened around 11:30 Sunday night at a Texaco station near Highway 67 and Beltline.

"The victim (Betts) was pumping gas when a male suspect approached in another vehicle and shot him" said Police Lieutenant Colin Chennault.

Earlier in the evening, police say two other victims in the area were shot at by a suspect in a pickup truck.

Chennault said the killer stole the first victim's car, abandoned it a little while later and carjacked another vehicle after breaking into a nearby home.
