DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas Police were on the scene of an officer-involved shooting in the 3000 block of MLK Avenue near Madison High School shortly before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

No officers were hurt or students were hurt.

Dallas Police said officers were in the area seeking a suspect, Tradareon Choice, 18, who was wanted for aggravated robbery from a carjacking in the area within the past three days.

Officers approached the suspect who ran.  He ended up running towards DISD Police officers, then turned around back in the direction of Dallas Police officers.

At that point, police said the suspect pulled a handgun from his waistband.

Officer Zachery Helm fired his gun, striking Choice in the leg.  He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"The police officer had drawn the weapon out, holding it at an angle towards ground, shot him in the leg and he fell to the ground," said Dallas Police Major Jimmy Vaughan.

Chopper11 showed officers have a large area roped off and are walking around a parking lot possibly looking for evidence.

"I just hate he was running toward a school full of children that gun could have slipped it could have shot a parents child and crushed a lot of lives," said one witness who did not give her name.

Shortly after the last bell rang, the parent described seeing a teen running across the street from behind this seafood restaurant, making his way to the school.

"That's when I seen the police running after him so I got a closer look as he was getting closer I noticed he had a weapon," she said.
