DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) — The Dallas Police Department confirms that some officers could have been injured or even killed during the attack on their downtown headquarters on Lamar Street Saturday. Bombs were detonated, several squad cars were hit by gunfire, and windows shattered -- all because of a single gunman.

Over three-thousand Dallas police officers have made a formal call for better security in wake of Saturday's shooting rampage downtown; the Dallas Police Officers Association is warning cops to stay alert, while raising concerns about the safety of its on-duty officers.

Dallas Police Department Chairman Frederick Frazier said that a violent narrative created by anti-police agitators have made it open season for police officers, "We are under attack in America -- we need the tools to get the job done," Frazier said during a press conference on Saturday.

Texas Attorney General Paxton echoed his concern, "The attack on the Dallas Police Department and its officers is a dangerous reminder of the unpredictable threats our men and women in law enforcement face every day," Paxton said in a written statement.
