Dallas police: 1 dead after crash involving 4 vehicles
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- One person is dead following a crash involving four vehicles early Monday morning, Dallas police said.
At approximately 2:01 a.m. June 13, Dallas County deputies were sent to a "major accident" on eastbound I-30 at Dolphin Road.
When officers arrived, the Dallas Fire Department was blocking two vehicles involved in the crash -- a white box truck and a silver Chevrolet Malibu.
Officials said both vehicles were disabled in the left lane and the entire right passenger side of the Malibu was wrapped around the front of the box truck. The driver of the Malibu, identified as 29-year-old Terence Rowe, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A third vehicle involved in the crash -- a white Toyota Camry -- was parked on the right shoulder. The driver remained at the scene and spoke with deputies.
However, a fourth vehicle involved was described by witnesses as a navy blue or dark colored GMC pickup truck or Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of that vehicle fled the scene and continued traveling eastbound on I-30. No license plate was provided for the pickup truck, officials said.
The driver of the box truck was seen exiting from the driver side of the vehicle and "frantically walking around the scene," police said.
Officials said he then ran away from the scene towards the intersection of the I-30 Service Road at Dolphin Road. Deputies believe he may have been picked up by someone in a dark-colored sedan.
At approximately 6:10 a.m. as deputies were working the scene, a maroon GMC pickup truck broke through the line of Dallas County squad cars and was heading towards the scene being processed by deputies on foot.
One of the deputies used his squad car to stop the pick-up truck by getting in front of it. The pick-up truck struck the squad car and subsequently stopped.
The driver, identified as 45-year-old David Orocio, was arrested and charged for driving while intoxicated. He was transported to a local hospital and will be booked in to the Dallas County Jail afterwards, officials said.
No injuries were sustained by deputies.
