DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The FBI has Hogan's Alley and the US Military has  Fort Irwin in the Mojave Dessert.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown says that now is the time for DPD to have it's own city within a city - a fully built-out neighborhood, where officers in training can be placed in  real-life scenarios.

"We have to have the best training for our officers," says Brown.  "It is not a luxury."

Executive Assistant Chief David Pew says that the introduction of a reality-based training program in the department has resulted in a  50 percent reduction in officer-involved violence, including shootings, attacks on officers and complaints of excessive force.

There is no room in the Dallas city budget for a facility of this scale,  and so the organization Safer Dallas Better Dallas has launched a fundraising effort.  The initial goal is  $2 million.
