Dallas Officials Prepared For Possible Flooding

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Tropical Depression Bill started pounding North Texas with rain early Wednesday, and the City of Dallas was ready for it. There have been no flood-related issues reported yet. But, it is still too early to expect that all potential issues are in the past.

There have been reports of slippery surfaces and ponding along some DFW roads, particularly in lower areas where the road may dip down. However, crews in Dallas already have more than a dozen pumps working to keep water away from busy passages.

The pumps pull water from the flood basin and into the Trinity River, which is currently well below capacity.

The Eagle Ford Sump basin is designed to collect water that would otherwise inundate Dallas. The level there is still far below the levee on Wednesday morning. But it is rising, and that could become a problem depending on how much rain North Texas sees from Tropical Depression Bill.

The latest estimates still point to several inches for the DFW area. The hope, of course, is that flooding does not become an issue in Dallas, as it was last month.

Street crews will also be out on the roads Wednesday to address other flood-related issues like debris clogging up storm drains. Anyone who sees flooding problems -- from rising water to fallen trees -- is urged to call 311 for help.
