DALLAS (AP) - Dallas police say a 21-year-old man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of his mother, whose body was found in her burning house last month.

Police say Jacolby Hurd as arrested Monday in the death of 38-year-old Nikkita Roshette Overton, who was found dead on March 14. Police say the medical examiner later determined that she'd been fatally shot.

According to an arrest affidavit, Hurd had called 911 to report the fire.

The affidavit said that when Hurd was arrested on an unrelated shoplifting charge Thursday, the gun used to kill his mother was found in his backpack.

Hurd was being held in jail Monday night on $1 million bond on a capital murder charge. An attorney listed for him did not immediately return a message left late Monday night.
