DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Dallas have arrested a 24-year-old man because they say his negligence caused the death of his 2-year-old son.

Antonio Strange has been charged with Injury to a Child/Reckless Endangerment.

Police were called and met with members of Dallas Fire Rescue at Charlton Methodist Hospital after 2-year-old Ayden Strange died.

Antonio Strange told authorities that he and his son were home when he stepped outside for a moment and left the toddler alone. Strange said when he came back inside he found his son unresponsive and called 911.

When members of DFR arrived at the scene they attempted to resuscitate the toddler, and later transported him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Dallas Police Department's Child Abuse Unit was notified and during their investigation detectives say they found sufficient evidence to suggest Strange was negligent "and thereby responsible for the death of the toddler."

Antonio Strange is being held in the Lew Sterrett Jail.
