Dallas ISD Changes Private Transportation Service For Special Program Kids

DALLAS, Texas (1080 KRLD) - A cost-saving measure has been scrapped at Dallas County Schools after concerns about student safety.

Dallas ISD and its transportation provider Dallas County Schools have agreed to do away with a program that hired private drivers to pick up children enrolled in special programs.

There was a lot of concern and confusion last school year when town cars, SUV's and taxi cabs started picking up around 2,000 students -- instead of buses.

Dallas County Schools had put the program in place as a way to save money.

The new plan for the 2014 school year is to launch a fleet of minibuses - all painted a uniform blue so they are recognizable.

The minibuses will be driven by trained bus drivers.
