DALLAS (AP) — Dallas County public health officials say a 2-month-old child is the state's first flu fatality for the 2015-2016 flu season.

Specifics of the death were not disclosed Friday by Dallas County Health and Human Services. The agency said 20 pediatric flu deaths were reported nationally.

At least 19 children in Texas died of flu last year.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the flu vaccine for everyone 6 months of age and older.

Anna Dragsbaek, president and CEO of the Houston-area-based Immunization Partnership, says unfortunately this first victim was too young to be vaccinated. But she says for those eligible, getting a flu shot protects themselves and people around them.
