DALLAS (AP) - A Dallas immigration attorney must serve two years in federal prison for forging a police officer's name on a court document.

Sherin Thawer was sentenced Thursday in Dallas.

The 45-year-old Thawer in August pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft related to immigrants she represented applying to enter or remain in the U.S.

Prosecutors say Thawer in 2012 illegally used the name and badge number of a certain police officer to complete a document related to a U-Visa application. Those visas are provided to immigrant victims of crime or those who have assisted law enforcement investigations.

Authorities say Thawer knew that the officer had not completed the form.
