Dallas Firm Involved In Ashley Madison Lawsuit

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - With the hacking and release of data from the cheaters website Ashley Madison now in full public view, the lawsuits have begun.
The lawsuits were filed by Ashley Madison users in California, Texas, Missouri, Georgia, Tennessee and Minnesota. They all seek class-action status to represent the estimated 37 million registered Ashley Madison users
Two law firms, including The Schmidt Firm in Dallas, are looking to represent clients against the Toronto based Avid Life Media (ALM), the parent company of the cheaters website.
According to the Dallas law firm's website, Ashley Madison had users pay $20 to delete their profile, but actually kept names, addresses, and personal data.
One lawsuit, on behalf of an Austin man, is seeking at least a half-billion dollars for clients, saying the administrators of the Ashley Madison website failed to protect their confidentiality.
Ashley Madison, one of the more well-known online dating and social networking services, targeted users who were either married or in a committed relationship and were looking to engage in extramarital affairs.
At one point, the Ashley Madison website claimed there were more than 39 million anonymous members.
The website was recently hacked -- and the hackers released millions of client names, emails and financial information.
CBS News reports that Canadian police are investigating at least two instances of men committing suicide after being exposed as clients of the website.
The company is now offering a $500,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the hackers.
