Dallas Fire-Rescue responds to two-alarm apartment fire

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas Fire-Rescue units responded to a two-alarm apartment fire on April 14, 2022.

The call came in around 1:59 p.m. from 6415 Melody Lane in Northeast Dallas.

When units arrived, they saw heavy black smoke pouring from the two-story building's roof. The flames had already spread to the attic and could be seen from the roof, so a second-alarm response was initiated. Firefighters were able to extinguish it in about half-an-hour.

At least three individual units suffered fire damage, but due to the power having to be shut off to the entire building, about 18 residents were displaced. The American Red Cross has been called to the scene to work with the complex's management to meet the needs of the residents.

None of the residents were injured, but one firefighter was taken to a local hospital for medical reasons. They are expected to be okay.

According to investigators, the fire was accidental in nature and the most probably result of an electrical short in the walks between to second floor apartments. With the fire having begun within the walls, it took no time for it to reach the attic and break through the roof.
