DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The Dallas Cowboys may be big hulking guys, but when it comes to the subject of pet adoption, they are softies at heart.

Modeling for a pet adoption calendar scheduled for release at the beginning of next month, they stopped by PlayNow Studios in Addison and couldn't take their hands off the dogs there.

"It's a subject that we all need to talk about," said defensive end David Irving about the subject of pet adoption.

Cowboys guard McKenzie Bernadeau is happy to talk about it, too.

"As nice as it is to find adoption clinics, finding these dogs nice homes is what's most important," he said.

No one wants that more than Leigh Costa, the founder of Costa Sports Marketing, and mastermind behind the calendar.

Proceeds from the calendar will go to Dallas Companion Animal Project, a non-profit organization that partners with Dallas Animal Services on programs to help folks care for their pets and keep them out of shelters.

As we went behind the scenes, every Cowboys player who took part in the modeling process, had a favorite dog.

Holding a puppy who won't be ready for adoption until after Thanksgiving, offensive tackle La'el Collins said "You see his face? He won't be small for long... he's going to get bigger, stronger, faster, smarter... we have a lot in common."
