Dallas County Could Elimate Minimum Wage Jobs

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - There's a push to eliminate minimum wage Dallas County jobs.

Dallas County Commissioners will consider getting rid of pay grades 1 and 2 for county jobs at its meeting Tuesday morning.

Grades 1 and 2 range from a minimum of $8.28/hour ($17,638.40 annually) up to  $13.41/hour ($27,892.80 annually).

"The pace of the minimum wage over the past 40 years has failed to keep up with inflation," said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, who is proposing the change.

"Everyone deserves the opportunity to succeed and your success should be determined by working hard and playing by the rules not by your zip code or the circumstances of your birth. At Dallas County, we strive to maintain a strong, motivated workforce and this change will ensure the minimum starting salary at Dallas County is above the proposed $10.10 minimum wage."

Currently, seven of Dallas County's more than six thousand employees make less than $11 an hour.
