Dallas Co Organizations Preparing To Care For Immigrant Children
DALLAS, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - Disaster organizations are getting ready to help the estimated 2,000 children and teenagers who will be brought to Dallas County from over crowded immigrant detention centers along the border.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins will meet with representatives from lead emergency management organizations including the Red Cross, Catholic Charities and Texas Baptist Men.
Terry Henderson with Texas Baptist Men has been in Brownsville since May, providing shower and laundry services, and giving some medical treatments to the thousands of children who have been streaming across the border.
Later this week Federal officials will be set to announce at least one of the facilities in Dallas County that will be used to temporarily house some of the children and teenagers, starting next month.
Judge Jenkins says that the federal government will absorb the cost.
