DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The Dallas County District Attorney's office says it has no return date for DA Susan Hawk who is taking another leave of office while being treated for severe depression.

District Attorney Susan Hawk could return, serve her term and even run for reelection. But given the severity of Hawk's depression, and the pressures of the office, there are even supporters who say she may have to step aside.

What if she did?

Alicia Pierce of the Secretary of State's office says timing plays a big role.

"August 26, 2016 would be the 74th day before the election" says Pierce. "So if a vacancy (of office) happens on, or before, then the election for someone who's someone who is leaving office could happen this fall."

If Hawk were to resign more than 74 days before the fall election, Governor Greg Abbott would only appoint someone to serve through the end of the year.
